Sri Lankan history

Sri lanka has very big history……..it is began 2500years ago….

Load Buddha came to Sri Lanka in three times..

in the 1^st time Mahiyangana..2^nd time Nagadeepaya 3^rd time Kelaniya….then Sri Lanka has very

ancient valuables.

We can study sri Lankan history under few topics. They are,

1.Pre age

Before the common population Sri Lanka has pre human activities & pre human population..

From research in pahiyangala, Bellilana,& balngoda. in 1997 we got more facts about pre humans.

Dr.Shiran dariniyagala and his team can  found 5 skulls from the “Balangoda manawaya”…

That 5 skulls found from the under 13 soil levels...Afterword they decide to check the age from

The this skulls…then they take skulls for America to check the “carbon 14 time test”..after that test they find this skulls old 37,000 yerars .

In the research, Dr Shiran dariniyagala and his team collect more weapons.. like smooth stones,

Bowies, and etc.. “Balamgoda manwaya” did winding sheet for they are died bodies..in that fact

Found the search at their cemetery. Balangoda manawaya must did special customs for interments

 2.Anuradhapura age

Anuradhapura age is starting in 5thB.C... king Pandukabaya is the first controller in this age.

Anuradhapura town is the main capital in this period.. king Pandukabaya decide to make a

Beautiful and valuable city for his control. Then he pick Anuradhapura town..

king Pandukabaya made lines between the town & he made hospitals, buildings, temples(like Tamil kovils) and other things.

Moist civilization is start in this Anuradhapura age .

After his control more noble kings are control the Anuradhapura age. For the example

King Dewanampiyathissa(259-210B.C.), king Dutugamunu(161-137B.C.),, King Mahasen, King Walagamba(89-77B.C.), …..etc.

But after the south Indian “Chola” attacks Anuradhapura town destroyed in 1017B.A...

3.Polonnaruwa age

Polannaruwa age is between 1017A.D – 1270A.D. years. King Wijayabahu is the first king in this era.. Polannaruwa town is the main city in this time.. In  1017-1020 A.D. time South Indian Chola attacks to the Anuradhapura town and destroyed most valuable buildings & facilities .

Then Anurdhapuraya became a danger city. Then King Wijayabahu Decide to make a pollanaruwa to major city after the defeated chola attacks…after the his control

Pollanaruwa town became a 2^nd Sri Lankan’s kingdom. After the King Wijayabahu, king Parakkramabahu became a controller in pollanaruwa kingdom.. He made most atrracktive & valuable river..it is “Prakkrama samudraya”..”Sammudraya” mean like a sea. Any way “Prakkrama samudraya” is a Amazon creation.

In 1270 B.C South Indian king “Kalinga Maga” attack the Pollanaruwa then it is the main reason for the end of Pollanruwa kingdom. 

4.Dhambadeni age

In 1215-1270A.D. we sayied dhambadeniya age.Becouse in that time our kings selected Dhambadeniya town to manage theair contol. 3-Whijayabahu is the 1^st king in Dhamabadeniya kingdom. After the king 3-Wijayabahu, King 2-Parakumba contol the Dhambadeniya. In the dhamadeniya age we can see 3 foreign attacks. They are , 

1.      Chandrabanu’s 1^st attack     

2.      Kalinga maga’s attack    

3.       Chandrabanu’s 2^nd attack

5.Yapahuwa age

Yapahuwa age is not big historical age. But it age is veary particular. In 1272-1300 A.D time we said Yaphuwa kingdom age . 1-Buwanakabahu is the 1^st king in yapahuwa kingdom. Yapahuwa main castle is cover with the the natural rocks & jungles. It is veary usefull for hide from the attacks

6.Kurunagala age

Kurunagala kingdom starting in the 1300 C.A .it is end in 1341 A.D . 4- Prakkramabahu is the 1^st king in kurunagalla kingdom. Kurunagalla town is the major city of Sri Lnka inthat time.

“Saulu Wijayabahu”, “5-Parakkumba” are the kings in kurunagalla kingdom

7.Gampolla age

In 1341-1415 A.D. time we said gampolla kingdom age. Bcouse in that time Gampolla is the major city in Sri Lanka. In that age is very valuable for Sinhala lituare.” Nikaya Sangrahaya”,

“Elu athanagallu Wanshaya” ,” mayura sandeshaya” are the  example for the Literature

books in gampola age. 4- Buwanakabahu is the 1^st king in Gampolla.

8.Kotte age

 Kotte age is very popular for the Sri Lankan Literature and “sandesha”. In the time we can found more valuable and creative books, poetry, stories, and “sandesha”(sandesha is like for the latter but it has creative and imageful poetry) . Nishanka Alagakonara is the 1^st controller in Kotte town. He made walls and   water courses around the kotte castle. 1415 A.D.is the year of the begins kotte kingdom. In the 1521 happened the “wijayaba kolaya” and it is the main reason for end of the kotte Kingdom.
